About Me

Hi! I am an amateur home baker with an intolerance to dairy products. A lot of servers in restaurants assume I just mean a lactose intolerance, but I have tried the lactose free products available and still have a reaction.

When I first noticed the intolerance, around 2010, there wasn’t much available to those who couldn’t handle dairy products. Dairy free chocolate was disgusting, dairy free cheese was hard to come by and didn’t melt (it turned into concrete under the grill!), and dairy free cakes were sided with gluten free and were dry and tasteless. As a self-proclaimed chocoholic and cookie monster, these options weren’t very appealing.

I have always been interested in baking, and my university dorm-mates always asked when I was next baking cookies or if I could do the dessert for our occasional meals together. I have baked cakes for family members (I’m particularly proud of the ones I have baked for my sister) and friends, as well as taking part in Macmillan mornings. I have often received praise that they couldn’t even tell the bakes and cakes I made were dairy free.

Dairy free and vegan foods are now so easy to come by, but there are still some baked goods that I miss, so I took it upon myself to try making them. And I wanted to share my results with you!
